| Customer Reviews: read the manual please June 21, 2010 R. Corbett (west Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have purchased this camera to replace a much older coopix 4300 I have obtained several L series coolpix as gifts over the years for others. This is the first pocket coolpix in the low cost group with indoor performance beating the old 4300 with F2.8 lens. If you actually read the manual and set up the menu with icons instead of text you will like this camera alot. If you don't take the time read the manual and don't press the shutter button 1/2 way to focus first you will be one of those people who rate this camera low so please read the instructions! I made the purchase because this is the last L camera with the zoom button on the back, I don't like the relocation of the zoom button near the shutter button on the back of on the newer L22 version. For me the L20 is a buy for a pocket camera.
Excellent camera but not for the novice June 14, 2010 N. King The fist few pictures I took with this camera I wanted to pack it up and return it to the store. I then decided to do what should have been done in the first place and that was to read the manual. You really have to make the necessary adjustments and properly choose you settings in order to get the cleanest and sharpest pictures that is definitely possible with this camera. If you are a novice, the easiest way to get those quality pictures would be to first choose the auto mode. The camera will then focus on a object by pressing the shutter release button halfway. The focus area will then go green and then you can press the button all the way down. Works every time.
Remember to read the manual and get all you can from this amazing camera.
great little camera for my daughter August 22, 2010 Mary Ellen Ciganovich (Chattanooga, TN) My daughter wanted this exact camera for her birthday. She LOVES it and I'm glad she had a great birthday! MOM
Disappointed December 23, 2009 R. Smith (Baltimore, MD USA) 15 out of 19 found this review helpful
I am a fan of Nikon and love my D40x and thought I would like a small Nikon point and shoot for a recent trip where I did not want to risk damage to my DSLR. I was not happy with the experience. The Coolpix L20 is very difficult to use in anything but full auto. Low light exposure is grainy and very sensitive to movement. Shutter controls are menu driven and hard to get to in a short time situation. Overall versatility did not come close to my Kodak EasyShare V550 by any comparison. Camera has some problems finding focal point under many conditions and I found that (in my opinion) the camera is only useful on bright sunny days and even then the photos are sometimes out of sharp focus. I intend to return it and would not recommend it to anyone at a price of more than $30.
